Beautiful Locs You'll Love

Pre-Shampoo Vinegar Treatment

A vinegar pre-shampoo treatment is a great way to remove light build-up and maintain healthy locs and scalp.

Key Ingredients

Vinegar

Clarifying properties cut through grease, dirt and build-up on the locs and scalp to make it easier to wash away. Its anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties make it great for reducing itchiness and flaking on the scalp, whilst its low pH helps to re-balance the hair and scalps pH for optimal health.

Bicarbonate of Soda

Clarifying and mildly exfoliating to help remove dirt, oils and build-up. It's high pH helps to raise the low pH of the vinegar to make a more optimal pH range for the hair and scalp.

Instructions

Making Your Own

We recommend using our specially formulated Citrus-Vinegar Pre-shampoo Treatment, which not only includes these but other key ingredients. You can also make a simplified version by mixing 1/2 cup of Vinegar (any vinegar will do), with 1 teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in a jug. Stir until the baking soda has dissolved completely. The mixture will fizz quite a bit. Pour into a spray bottle. It's now ready to use. The Vinegar in this mixture is self-preserving, so it will last for a few months without the need to refrigerate.

How to Use

  • If you are still within the baby phase of your locs, make sure to braid/twist and band before starting.

  • Spray your locs and scalp liberally with the pre-treatment. Make sure your locs are very damp with the solution. Massage into the scalp well. Cover with a plastic cap (or bag) and leave on for 15-30 minutes.

  • Remove the plastic cap and message your scalp and locs to loosen any build-up the pre-treatment has brought to the surface.

  • Proceed to shampoo as normal with our Aloe & Peppermint Clarifying Loc Shampoo

  • Remember to detangle locs strands post wash and braid until dry

How Often

We don't recommend using during the first 6 months after installation. After 6 months we recommend using this treatment every 4-10 weeks, whenever your retightening is due. This ensures that your roots are free of any build-up that could be woven into your locs during the retightening process, and also ensures that any potential slippage which can be caused by the vinegar can be rectified that same day.
