Bentonite Clay Deep Cleanse

Deep cleansing to help remove excess loc build-up, lint and to increase loc health and vitality. Recommended once or twice a year or as an emergency cleanse for intense build-up.

For Mature Locs.

Benefits:

of Bentonite Clay and Apple Cider Vinegar

Bentonite Clay is a mudlike substance that is from volcanic ash, which can be used on hair as a natural way to add moisture and remove toxins.

Benefits include removal of excessive dirt and oils that accumulate within the locs to create build-up, conditioning of the locs by adding softeness and shine and reducing dryness both on locs and scalp.

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) use on hair is scientifically supported to strengthen locs, lower and balance locs and scalp pH and remove infections and itchiness of the scalp.

Combined, ACV added to the bentonite clay helps to activate the properties within the bentonite clay to allow for a deep cleanse.  Though the activation can occur with water alone, the added benefits of ACV allows for an even deeper cleanse, ensuring clean, build-up free, shiny and moisturized locs.

First Step

You will need Bentonite Clay and Organic Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV).

Start with 1/2 a cup of Bentonite Clay and enough ACV to make a yoghurt-like paste consistency. Use more clay and ACV if locs are longer.

Find a non-metal bowl and fork - you can use a plastic fork and a glass/plastic or polystyrene bowl (Take your pick) large enough so not to allow too much spillage from mixing.

Mix the bentonite clay and the ACV together using the fork to help remove any lumps.  Mix till smooth.  Add more bentonite clay if you need to bulk your mixture, add more ACV if you need to loosen your mixture.

Once your mixture is as smooth as can be, you're ready for step two.

Second step

You will need a large old towel or a large plastic bag to cover your clothes as it can get a little messy.  A large black bin bag is a great option, with cut-outs for your head and arms using scissors to put over your head like a dress.

Shampoo locs with a clarifying shampoo such as our Aloe & Peppermint Clarifying Loc Shampoo.

Towel dry slightly to reduce dripping and cover yourself with your covering of choice (i.e black bag/towel as per above)

You are ready for step three.

Third Step

Part your locs into 2 - 4 sections or in smaller sections if its better for you.  The aim is to be able to comfortably cover the whole loc from route to tip.

Apply your bentonite clay and ACV mixture to your locs generously.  Take your time, it's important that all locs are covered.

Once all locs are covered in the mixture, leave to dry for 1-3 hours (or until completely dry), uncovered.

You are now ready for step four.

Final Step

Rinse, rinse, rinse!

Wash your locs thoroughly with warm water until all the clay is rinsed away. Be patient as it can take a while to rinse away cleanly. We advise having a mirror nearby to check if all the clay is out.

Remember to detangle, seal with light oil, such as our Healthy Loc & Scalp Oil, and braid your locs post-wash.

Dry and style your locs as usual.
